Atrocities Committed in the Name of Money and Power

While I don’t believe in a supernatural Antichrist or a conspiracy to bring such a being to power on Earth, I certainly do believe that humanity is capable of great evil and has committed great evils for the love of money and power.

While I don’t believe that we have literally been branded by some sort of Satanic number, I do feel that more than ever, certain numbers have power over our lives. We have our social security numbers, and purchases made with our debit or credit cards are tracked. True privacy is something of a myth.

When people are motivated by greed and love of power, terrible things will continue to happen.

Fad Diets: “Ew, Why Would Anybody Do That?”

Lard-Be-Gone-Pic-3

The following is a response to an article on AlterNet about unhealthy fad diets..

” In contention for one of the saddest bizarro fads on the list…”
Terribly unprofessional writing. It sounds like it was written by a junior high student.
Moving on.
Caloric deficits will not help most people lose weight long term. If people feel constantly hungry and deprived, the diet will not work. As well, many low calorie diets are actually very high in sugars, which cause blood sugar spikes and crashes. Look at the carbohydrate content of diet foods such as Special K and Slim Fast. There is a big reason why people feel hungry an hour after consuming these items.
People always feel like they fail on diets. In reality, the diet has failed them.
When I was diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes, I was forced to follow the American Diabetic association diet, which is very low carbohydrate.
A few things happened, which were nothing short of a miracle.
No, I am not going to say amazing weight loss and now I’m the queen of the world and have men chasing me wherever I go and I’m rich and my life is perfect.
For the first time in my life, I do not have uncontrollable cravings for simple carbohydrates.
There is too much sugar in the diet of the average American. This is no excuse to adapt a blaming and shaming attitude or spout the same old “just eat less and exercise more” rhetoric at people who have been deemed unattractive by society for their size. Enough of that has gone on, as is evidenced by the lengths that people will go to in order to become a socially acceptable size.
I consider weight loss surgery to be an incredibly barbaric and sadistic weight loss scheme. Many people who undergo it report complications.
We have millions of people walking around hating their bodies. It is time we stopped the bullying and started treating everyone with compassion, even those we have deemed “unattractive.”

Additional: I have been so desperate to lose weight and fit the very narrow description of beauty in the U.S. that I was actually trying to find tapeworm eggs so I could finally become Number 12.

This is where the disdain for larger bodies has brought us. People are willing to die in order to be thin. How can people fail to realize just how problematic this is?

Derision is Not Acceptable

someones grandmother2013.10W.21

My great grandmother looked a lot like this.

The older I get, the more I look like this.

You know, I get that this woman, my great grandmother, and I will never be seen as icons of beauty and sexual desirability, and I’m fine with that.

What I don’t understand is why it is deemed acceptable to shower derision upon people who are not deemed sexually desirable by the general public.

When did this become the norm?

When did this in any way become okay?

How can people see this as okay?

Being considered fuckable should not be a criteria for being deserving of common decency.

The Kurds: A Persecuted People Caught in the Middle

The Kurdish people are caught in the middle of the tensions of the other countries surrounding Kurdistan. Their realm is surrounded by Iran, Iraq, Syria, and Turkey.

As a minority group, the Kurds have suffered persecution. There have been several attempts at genocide, the most infamous being the chemical attacks of 1988 on the village of Halabja.

There is no excuse for these murdered little ones. If an action is taken which kills the innocent and helpless, there can be no glory in it. My heart cries for the children of Halabja. May they rest in peace.

Lully, lullay, Thou little tiny Child,
By, by, lully, lullay.
Lullay, thou little tiny Child,
By, by, lully, lullay.

O sisters too, how may we do,
For to preserve this day
This poor youngling for whom we do sing
By, by, lully, lullay.

Herod, the king, in his raging,
Charged he hath this day
His men of might, in his own sight,
All children young to slay.

Then, woe is me, poor Child for Thee!
And ever mourn and sigh
For thy parting neither say nor sing,
By, by, lully, lullay.

History in the Making: Bill Gates and Steve Jobs Over the Years

Corporate psychology is not my specialty. However, it is fascinating to study and try to discern what made Apple and Microsoft the giants of the industry, basically shutting out all other operating systems.
I am also not a computer expert. I am Joe End-User. I need something that works easily and quickly for me. Apple and Microsoft both targeted Jane and Joe End-User as opposed to focusing their software on corporate applications. I wouldn’t know what to do with a Linux if it came up and bit me.
It is also fascinating to study the history of the computer. For the greater part of the twentieth century, computers were relegated to use in the military and certain industries. They were great behemoths that took up entire rooms. The smaller computers envisioned on the original Star Trek came close to showing what was to come for computers.
As for Jobs and Gates, their success comes not only from their innovation, but also from their refusal to allow others to discourage them from their goals. Their success did not happen overnight. If you listen to them, they also acknowledge that they had other people assisting them to achieve their ambitions.
In order to succeed, one must be flexible enough to allow their vision to evolve and morph, but never give up on the goal.
Believe in yourself and your vision.
