Deconstructing Pac Man Feat. Goldie Everything Real

This is my reaction to hearing the above song and viewing the video for the first time.

The song has a good sound. Perhaps it’s not conventionally acceptable for an old fart like me to like a new hip-hop tune like this one, but I really don’t care about conventions. The song has a slow, smooth groove blending with edgy lyrics.
Unfortunately, the subject matter is, overall, uninspiring. I am all about people expressing solidarity. Never did care for the “pro-gangsta” vibe in some hip-hop tunes, although I do understand the reason behind it. Actually, the reason isn’t even so much the fact that the artists are expressing what it’s like to live in the ghetto or projects. This was originally the case. Then, record companies took over and exploited and glamorized gang culture.
I’m not going to delve deeper into this factor as there are others who can explain it far better than I can. I’m an outsider looking in. I’ve never been involved in either gang culture or the recording industry.
I always think its a positive thing when artists of different racial backgrounds come together on a project.
One of the dancers in the video is a larger woman. This isn’t something that one sees very often.
Not all of the women in the video are scantily dressed.
However…
There is at least one mostly naked model with extremely large, silicone enhanced breasts. I don’t know if she’s a current porn star, as I don’t keep up with “who’s who” in pornography. The general vibe I get is the “we can get with porn stars” idea. So don’t care, Fellows. Treating women like props has been done and overdone.
There are scenes where the band members are sitting with fully clothed women on a bed and not behaving in a sexual fashion with said women. It’s a “hanging with our homegirls” vibe, and I like that well enough. What I don’t care for is the fact that, as with so many videos, the women are props rather than partners.
If you like this sort of music, you’ll likely enjoy the song. Overall, everything that’s been done in the video has been done before. It’s a trite, tired way of treating women. Yeah, you’re in a band, you can get tail. And just like every young dude before you, you see the need to brag about it. Same old story. Moving on.
A word to the wise: avoid the comments on this one; they’re odious. I’m sure this surprises no-one, given that it’s You Tube.

Homophobes are Idiots: Phil Robertson

Dannii-small

Dannii Minogue proudly shows her support for Stonewall’s anti-bullying campaign

This post is a reply to a post on The Daddy Files about the ridiculous remarks made by Phil Robertson of Duck Dynasty, which parrot the ridiculous and unfounded arguments of other wing-nuts.

Put the smackdown on him, Dashy! (Image found in this post)

I’m sure that according to this fool, only gays get AIDS, and that a heterosexual man who cheats on his wife is a better person than a monogamous gay man.

This fool has had his brains pecked out by ducks.
“That’s it, this marriage is over, and it’s all because of same sex marriage!”
Said no straight couple ever.
Why the hell anyone is worried about whether Joe Next Door is in love with a man, or Jane Down the Lane loves a woman is beyond me. I’m heterosexual. Some people are gay. Some people are bi. As long as all parties involved are consenting adults, who the hell cares?
There are cases of incestuous attraction (I’m not talking about parents raping children, I’m talking about siblings in an equitable relationship) but they are rare enough that we really don’t need to concern ourselves with them. Allowing gay marriage most assuredly does not lead to the allowing of incestuous marriage. That slippery slope does not exist.
Homosexuality is not a perversion, it is a legitimate sexual orientation. Most homosexual couples are not related to each other any more than most heterosexual couples are related to each other. Therefore, it is ridiculous and peculiar to assume that legalizing same sex marriage would lead to a marked rise in siblings wanting to bang each other. I cannot foresee, after some 45 years of being on this planet at the same time, me suddenly wanting to bang my brother because same sex marriage is legalized. I would be more likely to decide to have sex with an unrelated woman than sex with any man to whom I’m related, and I’m really not attracted to women.
As to homosexuality leading to bestiality, this premise is just as ridiculous. Most homosexuals do not want to have sex with animals any more than most heterosexuals do. When’s the last time you heard a gay person preaching that we should all have sex with animals, because, well, you know, them gays is big perverts that will schtoink anything?
The whole thing is ridiculous. Some people have really dirty minds.
The ones who should be ashamed are those who are bashing innocent people whose only “crime” is being attracted to people of the same sex.

Additional: Response to this dumbassery by Phil Robertson

“It seems like, to me, a vagina—as a man—would be more desirable than a man’s anus. That’s just me. I’m just thinking: There’s more there! She’s got more to offer. I mean, come on, dudes! You know what I’m saying? But hey, sin: It’s not logical, my man. It’s just not logical.”

On a purely visceral level, a woman’s vagina and anus would be more appealing to a heterosexual man. For a homosexual man, a man’s penis and anus are more appealing than a woman’s vagina and anus. Who the hell cares? Why do you care so much, Phil? How does it affect you in any way if Stan is having sex with William rather than Betty?

Dancing Like No-One’s Watching

I always wonder why some people seem to see it as a personal crusade to shame others into stopping themselves from having a good time.

What difference does it make if a person doesn’t look like an airbrushed fashion model, or a professional, choreographed dancer?

What difference does it make if someone doesn’t sound like a professional musician?

If being cruel is the only way a person can make themselves feel big, then they are truly the smallest and pettiest of souls.

Being cruel isn’t cool, it’s ugly.

Too many ugly people have stopped far too many from expressing themselves and enjoying life.

I think this is the worst kind of tragedy.

Rebirth

At KHEL 666, we’re all about promoting independent artists as well as sharing longtime favorites.
This is a decent enough background track and has potential to develop into a fine electronica piece. I feel that if he kept working on it and beefed it up a little, gave it a bit of a hook, it could be a really fine tune.
Regarding the video:
I’ll take into consideration that I (49 year old female) am not this fellow’s target audience. However, he almost lost me by starting the video with scantily clad babes. Yawn. I don’t need to see something strikingly innovative to hold my attention, but I would prefer not to see the same old same old. Mix it up a little.

Miley Cyrus’ Crass Performance at VMA Music Awards

I will admit that my white privilege is probably showing when I say that I did not personally notice the racist aspects of the performance. I noticed the overall objectification of women, the female bisexuality for the male gaze, and the sexualizing of objects associated with childhood, such as teddy bears. I find Miley Cyrus’ over the top, crass, in your face soft-core porn performance boring and lacking in imagination. I’m glad that someone pointed out the racial aspects of the performance.

The racist elements were pointed out in these articles:

http://thinkprogress.org/alyssa/2013/08/26/2527091/miley-cyrus-vmas-britney-spears-bisexual/

In fairness, I highly doubt that Miley Cyrus has any awareness that her performance contained racist elements. She was trying for shocking. Her performance was uninspired and uninspiring. It’s sad that a fair number of young girls believe that they have to behave like sex objects in order to get attention. I honestly thought that Miley looked rather awkward.  Robin Thicke looked like a skeevy, self-aggrandizing wannabe pimp.

I don’t know enough about it to comment on the aspects of their performance that may have been appropriating black culture. I only know that I wouldn’t bother to pay to see either of them perform. Neither their stage act nor their music do anything for me.
